is live and has had a make over. The site is now selling 3D scans of humans in motion, with the intent to allow 2d and 3d artists the ability to study human anatomy like never before. Each scan features high resolution details, high resolution texture and photographic reference data.

Over time the site will grow as more content is processed, cleaned and added. The site will future some mild nudity but not full frontal, and is artistic in nature. The products available are a new type of 3d scan, never before released. The scans are not perfect but offer a superb blank canvas to work from and feature rich low frequency details to help aid in the study of the human form.

Capturing humans in motion, to scan, is one of the hardest things technically to do. Impossible to laser scan, and just as hard to do passively with DSLR cameras. Occlusion is always an issue but this system covers most angles. Even still, noise is present and a great deal of clean up is required. At the moment things like fingers, toes and hair can be problematic but with customers support, by purchasing content on and by giving feedback, it will enable me to slowly improve the system, over time. This approach to 3D scanning is the first of it’s kind. It certainly beats building characters from scratch using 2d reference from Google!

A forum will also open soon, opening up discussion on the products, future requests and anything 3d scanning related.

Some examples from the store:

Athena³ – The goddess of wisdom, warfare, battle strategy, heroic endeavour, handicrafts and reason.

Aphrodite³ – The goddess of love, beauty and desire.

– a hero and king of Ithaca.

Sorry to sound cheap, but I see that you plan on offering the 10 pack soon. If we get the singles now, will we be able to subtract that from the 10 pack later?

Yes that might be possible, I might be able to add a discount to anyone who bought a single scan. I will look into that and post about it on the triplegangers site.

Also, will we be able to mix 'n' match packs?

The packs will come sold together as 10 in each. I wont be able to split them up for a while but that might happen in the future.

I've played around with the first scan, with an open mind to future releases of the model and I think there is massive potential on either the modeling/retopology or map creation front
Have you thought of making clothing with dynamic (composite/normal/wrinkle) maps driven by morph/angle values or even the rig itself.
Same idea with displacement maps for extreme poses in joint deformation and skin wrinkles, now we're using multiple UV tiles it's a possibilty.
Down the road could be a unified model including all of the data in the scans with every kind of map driven by the rig itself even down to the diffuse!
Animating at a photoreal level has been nearly impossible despite increases in cpu,sss and gi capabilities
Maybe, just maybe you've given us the tools to climb half way out the valley.

Hi Garry, what you suggest is a long way off and possible for people to explore. What I intend to offer in the short-term is just the RAW data so people can experiment. All the things you suggest will be possible. Tracking and conforming a unified mesh to scan poses is the single biggest challenge, researchers at Princeton, Disney Zurich, University of Surrey and USC ICT are investigating this very purpose but it is very difficult to do automatically and well. Easy by hand but very time consuming. I hope some of this data will help people to explore those possibilities :)

Hello, seems to be in maintenance for sometime now, when can we expect to be able to access the store again. Or is there an alternative way to buy your scans in the meantime?

When is Triplegangers coming back? Is there any other outlets where I can buy some of these models? I'm very interested in buying the models in this article.

I miss the full body scans that you used to offer, the head only scans are nice but have only limited uses.

Thanks for the interest. We specialize in head scans for the time being. We might look again at body scanning next year.
